Harassment & Uttering Threats
Criminal harassment Criminal harassment involves knowingly and unlawfully engaging in (often but not necessarily, repetitive) direct or indirect conduct or communication towards another individual or members of their family that causes any of those individuals to reasonably fear for their safety.
Uttering threats Uttering threats is a kind of assault that involves knowingly uttering, conveying, or causing another individual to receive a threat to cause death or bodily harm to any person or their animals, or to burn, destroy, or damage property.
The sentence imposed for an uttering threats or harassment conviction depends on the circumstances of each individual case. Nevertheless, a conviction for any criminal offence will result in a criminal record, which can negatively impact many areas of your life including your reputation, your ability to maintain or obtain employment, and your ability to travel to other countries like the United States. In addition, a conviction for these offences may carry other penalties, including a potentially lengthy term of imprisonment.
